Steal-and-run games are everywhere right now. Steal a Brainrot is one of the most played games on the big web portals, Egg Thief: Steal n Run spread to new countries every few days this autumn, and egg-stealing obbies keep popping up in the new-games lists. Egg Heist takes the core of the genre — sneak in, grab, get out — and makes it a tidy farmyard puzzle you can play free in the browser.

Every level is a yard of hedges and crates with nests scattered around and your den at the bottom. Watch dogs guard the place: some walk back and forth along a run and stop to look around at each end, others stand still and sweep their gaze from side to side. Each dog sees a cone on the grass, and the hedges cut it short. Step into a cone and the dog's mark starts to fill — linger and you are caught. Round green bushes hide you completely, so you can wait inside one while a patrol walks past.

The trick is timing. Watch the patrols, find the gap, dash for the nest, then pick your way back with the egg. Every level is generated and then proved by a search through time, so there is always a safe way to every nest and back — the den and the bushes are always safe. The first yards have no dogs at all; later ones bring more dogs, more nests and bigger farms. Stars are for speed: bring everything home quickly for three.

Caught? A short video lets you keep going from your den with the eggs you already brought home, once a level, and after a win a video buys a sneak start: six seconds when no dog can see you. Egg Heist runs on desktop, phone and tablet with a drag-anywhere stick or the keyboard, saves your level and stars in the browser, and ranks the highest levels on the leaderboard.
