Double Link is a number chain merge puzzle: a board of coloured tiles holding powers of two. Drag a chain across matching numbers, keep going with the same number or its double, and let go — the whole chain merges into one bigger tile. If you have played 2248 or Numbers Match 2448, you know the feeling: one long chain, one huge number.
Number chain games took the idea of 2048 and made it faster and more satisfying: instead of sliding the whole board, you draw a path through the tiles you want to join. 2248 made the format a mobile hit, and Numbers Match 2448 brought it to browsers. Double Link plays it free with nothing to install. The rules fit in a sentence: the first two tiles must match, and every next tile must be the same as the one before it or double it.
When you let go, the chain merges into its last tile, which becomes the sum rounded up to the next power of two — 2 + 2 makes 4, 2 + 2 + 4 makes 8, and three 2s make 8 too. Long chains that climb through doubles turn small numbers into big ones in a single move, and every merge adds its value to your score. Chains can turn corners and run diagonally, so the shape of the board is part of the puzzle.
After every merge the tiles above fall and new ones drop in from the top. As your biggest tile grows, the smallest number on the board retires, so the board keeps moving up — 2s disappear, then 4s, and soon you are joining thousands. Numbers past 9999 are shown short: 16K, 131K, 1M and beyond.
The game ends when no two touching tiles match and both shuffles are used — until then, it simply goes on, and a short video buys one more shuffle. Your game is saved in the browser between visits, so you can stop at any time and continue later. Double Link runs on desktop, phone and tablet, with no sign-up; your best score and biggest tile are kept, and the leaderboard ranks the best scores.
How to play Double Link
Build long chains:
- Press on a tile and drag to a touching tile with the same number.
- Keep going: each next tile can be the same as the last one, or double it.
- Drag back over the last tile to undo it.
- Let go — the chain merges into its last tile, rounded up to a power of two.
- Use a shuffle when no two touching tiles match.

Tips for Double Link
- Climb through doubles: 2, 2, 4, 8, 16 in one chain turns a handful of small tiles into a 32.
- Keep your big tiles together in a corner, as in 2048 — they need neighbours of the same size to grow.
- Diagonals count: a chain can zigzag through gaps a straight line can't.
- Don't waste a shuffle early — use it when no match is left.
- Coming from 2248? The rounding rule is the same: an uneven sum still rounds up to the next power of two.
