Melon Merge

Melon Merge is the watermelon game that ate the internet: drop cute fruits into a jar, watch matching pairs squish together into bigger fruit, and climb the ladder from a tiny cherry all the way to the mighty watermelon — before the pile hits the line.

In late 2023 a tiny Japanese physics puzzle about merging fruit became one of the most-watched games in the world, and it has refused to leave the charts since — the sequel arrived in early 2026 to prove it. The formula it perfected is simple to state and impossible to put down: two identical fruits touch, they become one bigger fruit, and the jar never quite has enough room.

Melon Merge is our take on that beloved mechanic. Ten fruits form the ladder — cherry, strawberry, grape, orange, apple, lemon, peach, pineapple, melon and finally the watermelon — each merge scoring more than the last. Real 2D physics runs the jar: fruits roll, settle, lean on each other and tumble into gaps, which means every drop rearranges the whole pile and every merge can cascade into a chain.

The tension is spatial. Big fruits are worth big points but occupy enormous space, and the red line at the top of the jar is unforgiving: let any fruit rest above it and the run ends. The masters of the genre think two merges ahead — parking pairs in corners, keeping the middle open, and setting up chain reactions that clear half the jar in one glorious cascade.

And when two watermelons finally meet, they vanish in a burst of fireworks — the genre's highest honour. A run takes five minutes; deciding you're done takes considerably longer.

Frequently asked questions

Is Melon Merge free to play?

Yes. Melon Merge is free on crokocat with no download and no sign-up — it runs entirely in your browser.

Is this the same as the Suika / watermelon game?

It's the same beloved merge mechanic — drop fruits, merge pairs, grow the watermelon — rebuilt from scratch for the browser with our own physics and art.

What happens when two watermelons touch?

They vanish in a burst of fireworks and award a big bonus — the rarest and most satisfying event in the game.

Why did my game end?

The jar overflowed: a fruit came to rest above the red dashed line for about a second. Keep the pile low by merging early and often.
