Egg Heist tips: how to sneak past the dogs and bring every egg home

Egg HeistSneak past the dogs, steal every eggPlay now

The short answer for Egg Heist: watch a dog for a moment before you move, cross its cone of sight quickly instead of stopping in it, and use bushes and hedges as cover. Dogs pause and look around at the end of their run, and that pause is your window. Every level is checked to be solvable, so a safe route to every nest and back always exists. This guide covers how the dogs see, when to wait, how to plan the trip home and how the three stars are scored. If you came here from Egg Thief: Steal n Run, the core idea is the same: sneak in, grab, get out.

How the dogs see you

Each dog sees a yellow cone on the grass. Step into it and the dog's mark starts to fill. It does not catch you instantly: the mark needs a moment, and if you leave the cone before it fills, you are fine. That small delay is the most useful fact in the game, because it means a quick crossing is almost always safer than stopping to think in the middle of a cone.

Hedges cut a cone short. A dog standing behind a hedge cannot see past it, so the hedge turns into a wall of safe grass. When you have to pass a dog, hug the hedge and keep the barrier between you and its gaze.

Round green bushes hide you completely. While you are inside one, no dog can catch you, so a bush is both a safe spot and a place to wait out a patrol.

Two kinds of dogs, two kinds of timing

Some dogs walk back and forth along a run and stop to look around at each end. Others stand still and sweep their gaze from side to side. The walkers give you a rhythm: watch one full lap, notice where it pauses, and count the time you have when its back is turned or its cone points away.

The sweepers never move, so there is no gap in space, only in time. Wait until the cone swings away from your path, then cross while it is looking elsewhere. Do not try to guess on the first pass. One extra second of watching costs less than starting the level over.

Plan the route before the first step

The first yards have no dogs at all, so use them to get used to the controls: drag anywhere on the yard and a stick appears under your finger, or use the arrow keys or WASD. Walk over a nest to take its egg, then walk into your den to bring the eggs home.

From the first level with a dog, take five seconds to read the yard. Find your den at the bottom, find the nests, find the bushes, and look at where each dog turns around. Bushes work like stepping stones: plan the trip from bush to bush so you are rarely in the open when a cone comes your way.

Later yards bring more dogs, more nests and bigger farms. Because every level is generated and then proved solvable by a search through time, a safe path always exists. If a route looks impossible, you are probably looking at the wrong timing, not a broken level.

Eggs: one trip or many

Stars are for speed. Bring everything home quickly and you earn three. So the question on a level with several nests is how many eggs to carry per trip.

Nests that sit close together are worth taking in one go, then bringing home in a single run. Nests far apart, with a patrol between them, can be safer as separate trips from the den, since the den and the bushes are always safe. Pick the order by the dogs, not by the distance alone: a short route that crosses a cone at the wrong moment is slower than a longer one that never does.

When you are caught

If a dog catches you, a short video lets you keep going from your den with the eggs you already brought home. That works once per level, so it is a rescue, not a plan. Use it when you are already deep into a level and one bad cone cost you everything.

After a win, a video also buys a sneak start for the next level: six seconds when no dog can see you. Use those six seconds to cross the first open stretch, then switch to your normal careful play.

Frequently asked questions

Is Egg Heist free to play?

Yes. Egg Heist is free on crokocat with no download and no sign-up. It runs in your browser on desktop, phone and tablet.

How do I control the fox?

Drag anywhere on the yard and a stick appears under your finger, or use the arrow keys or WASD. Walk over a nest to grab its egg and into your den to bring the eggs home.

Can a level be impossible?

No. Every level is generated and then proved solvable by a search through time, so there is always a safe way to every nest and back.

How do I get three stars?

Stars are for speed. Bring all the eggs home quickly: plan the route, take nearby nests together and avoid waiting in cones.

What happens if a dog catches me?

You can watch a short video to continue from your den with the eggs you already brought home. It works once per level.
