Puzzle Drop

Puzzle Drop is a picture puzzle played with falling cards: each card carries a quarter of a photo, and your job is to bring the quarters back together on a board that never has room to spare.

Cards drop from the deck above the board, face down, and turn over as they land. Each one holds a single fragment of a picture — a quarter of a cottage in the woods, a lighthouse, a plate of cake. Four fragments make a whole, and the whole is what you are after.

Moving is a trade, not a step. Drag a card somewhere else and whatever was there takes the place you left. Nothing is ever set aside, nothing waits in a tray: the board is the only space you have, and every move rearranges it. That is where the puzzle lives.

When fragments of the same picture end up correctly placed next to each other they fuse — the seam between them disappears and they become one piece that moves as a unit. A fused pair is stronger and clumsier at once: it fits fewer places, and getting it where it needs to go is the next problem you set yourself.

Complete all four quarters and the picture pulls together, flies off the board and leaves a hole behind. Everything above it comes apart and falls, and the board you spent five moves arranging is a different board again. Clear pictures on consecutive moves and the combo counter starts climbing.

It runs in the browser with nothing to install and no account to make, on desktop, phone or tablet, and it remembers where you were between visits.

How to play Puzzle Drop

A small board, a deck above it, and pictures cut into four:

Desktop: Drag cards with the mouse. The piece you would trade with lights up in pink.

Frequently asked questions

Is Puzzle Drop free to play?

Yes. It runs in your browser on crokocat with no download and no sign-up, on desktop, phone or tablet.

How do you play Puzzle Drop?

Drag a card to a new spot; whatever it covers moves to the place it came from. Get four fragments of one picture into their correct relative positions and the picture completes and clears.

What does it mean when two cards fuse?

Fragments of the same picture that sit correctly next to each other join into one piece and the seam between them disappears. From then on they move together.

What happens when a picture is completed?

It flies off the board and leaves a gap. Anything above the gap comes unglued and falls, so the board reshapes itself, and new cards drop in from the deck.

Is my progress saved?

Yes. The level you are on is stored in your browser, and the game picks up where you left off.
