Open Cells is FreeCell solitaire: all fifty-two cards dealt face up into eight columns, four free cells to park cards in and four home piles to fill from Ace to King. Nothing is hidden, so every deal is a puzzle you can think through — and every deal in Open Cells can be won.

In the columns, a card goes onto one a rank higher of the other colour: a red 6 on a black 7, a black 9 on a red 10. Any card can go into an empty column. The four free cells at the top left hold one card each while you dig out what lies underneath.

Runs move together. With free cells and empty columns to spare, you can carry a whole ordered run to a new column in one go — the more room you keep, the longer the run. Drag the run, or tap its first card.

Cards go home to the four piles at the top right by themselves as soon as no other card could still need them, each with a small rising click. When the rest of the deal is in order, the game finishes it for you.

Every deal is played through by a solver before you see it. The first levels use deals it clears with only one or two free cells, so they feel roomy with four; later come the full range, and from level 25 every fifth level is played with three cells.

Undo is unlimited and the bulb shows a good next move, found from where you stand. A clean game with neither is worth three stars.

The first deal teaches itself: a hand drags every move to its place with one line of why, all the way to the end.

How to play Open Cells

Move all fifty-two cards to the home piles, one pile per suit from Ace to King:

Desktop: Drag cards with the mouse or click to send them where they fit. Ctrl+Z undoes, Escape returns to the menu.
Mobile: Drag or tap cards. Hold the phone upright.
