틱택토가 어떻게 끝나는지는 다들 압니다. 실력이 비슷한 둘이 두면 격자가 가득 차고 무승부, 그리고 어깨 한 번 으쓱. 이 버전이 3×3에서 멈추지 않는 이유가 바로 그거예요. 작은 격자는 현관문일 뿐입니다. 이기면 4목이 필요한 5×5 보드가 나오고, 어릴 적 외운 구석과 갈래, 함정이 갑자기 통하지 않게 되죠.
거기서부터 계속 올라갑니다. 7×7, 그다음 9×9. 둘 다 5목으로 겨루는데, 사람들이 수백 년 동안 갈고닦아 온 종이와 연필의 클래식, 오목과 같은 계열의 규칙이에요. 큰 보드에서는 외운 수순이 아니라 두 개의 위협을 동시에 만드는 게임이 됩니다. 위협이 하나뿐이면 언제나 막히니까요.
컴퓨터도 보드와 함께 자랍니다. 첫 단계에서는 딴생각하는 친구처럼 두어서 놓치는 게 많고 이기는 것도 몸풀기 수준이에요. 마지막 보드에 이르면 이중 위협을 노리고, 내 열린 3목을 읽고, 안일한 수를 응징합니다. 이기면 단계에 비례한 점수가 쌓이고, 지면 연승이 0으로 돌아가요.
선공은 매 판 번갈아 가므로 어느 쪽도 선공의 이점을 계속 쥐지 못합니다. 5초면 익히는 규칙이 완전히 다르게 플레이되는 네 개의 보드에 걸쳐 펼쳐지는 거죠. 커피 한 잔 시간의 퍼즐로도, 이기고 싶어 하는 기계와의 진짜 맞대결로도 똑같이 잘 통하는 드문 게임입니다.
Tic Tac Toe Classic 하는 법
나는 X, 컴퓨터는 O를 둡니다. 나머지는 다섯 줄이면 충분해요:
- 빈 칸을 탭해 X를 놓으세요. 나와 컴퓨터가 번갈아 둡니다.
- 가로, 세로, 대각선 중 하나로 직선을 만들면 그 판을 이깁니다.
- 1단계는 3목, 5×5는 4목, 7×7과 9×9는 5목이 필요합니다.
- 한 판을 이기면 더 똑똑한 상대가 있는 더 큰 다음 보드가 열립니다.
- 지면 연승이 초기화되고 같은 보드를 다시 합니다. 선공은 매 판 번갈아 가요.

Tic Tac Toe Classic 팁
- 3×3에서는 가능하면 중앙을 잡고, 양쪽 구석을 노리는 갈래를 조심하세요.
- 큰 보드에서는 3목 하나만으로는 매번 막힙니다. 상대가 한 번에 둘 다 막을 수 없는 위협 두 개를 만들어 이기세요.
- 양쪽 끝이 비어 있는 열린 3목은 장전된 총입니다. 내 쪽으로 만들고, 컴퓨터에게는 절대 허용하지 마세요.
- 내 돌 근처에 두세요. 9×9 보드에서 흩어진 한 점들은 아무 일도 하지 않습니다.
- 막을 때는 컴퓨터가 뻗어 나갈 여지가 더 많은 쪽을 막으세요.
