Snakeは誰もが知っているアーケードの定番です。リンゴを食べて少し伸び、自分のしっぽが盤面を迷路に変えていくなかで、自分自身を閉じ込めないように立ち回ります。
Snakeは説明もチュートリアルもいらないゲームのひとつです。初めて見た瞬間に理解できてしまう。グリッドのどこかにフルーツの点がひとつあり、ヘビがそこへ這っていく。食べた瞬間に体はひと節伸びて、盤面の計算はまるごと変わっています。
このゲームが色あせない理由は、単純さがあっという間に難しさへ変わるからです。最初の30秒は世界中どこへでも行けるほど余裕があります。やがてヘビは自分の体が最大の障害物になるほど長くなり、リンゴを追うたびに、入口に飛び込む前に出口を考えることを求められます。ゲーム側は速くも複雑にもなりません。変わるのはこちらのほうで、その一点がすべての魅力です。
このバージョンはルールを純粋なまま守っています。グリッド移動、壁抜けなし、ぶつかれば即終了。加えたのは現代のブラウザに求められるものだけです。切れのいい操作、スマホのスワイプ対応、そして静かに更新を挑発してくる自己ベスト。残機もステージもなく、かき分けるメニューもありません。キーを押せばヘビが動き出し、あとはどこまで生き延びられるかだけです。
まさにコーヒーブレイク向けのゲームです。1プレイは1分、うまくいけばもう少し。その差を生むのは完全に自分自身。だからこそSnakeは1970年代以降のあらゆるハードの世代を生き延び、今日もブラウザのタブの中でまったく違和感なく居座っているのです。
Samurai Snakeの遊び方
Snakeは世界一始めやすく、上手くなるのは意外と難しいゲームです。ルールはナプキン1枚に収まります。
- ヘビをリンゴのほうへ導きます。ヘビは曲がることしかできず、止まれません。
- リンゴを1個食べるごとに、しっぽがひと節伸びてスコアが1点入ります。
- 壁か自分の体に当たると、その場でプレイ終了です。
- 長くなるほど余白は減ります。必要になる前に曲がる場所を決めておきましょう。
パソコン: 矢印キーまたはWASDで方向を変えます。スペースキーで一時停止。
スマホ: 画面のどこでも上下左右にスワイプして進む方向を変えます。
Samurai Snakeのコツ
- すべてのリンゴに一直線で向かわないこと。着いたときにしっぽがどこにあるかを考えましょう。
- 外周を使いましょう。ふちを回り続ければ、中央をあとのために空けておけます。
- 長くなってきたらきれいな列で動き、常に逃げ道を残しておきましょう。
- 急がば回れ。ほとんどの死因は考えすぎではなく、慌てて曲がったことです。
