If you want games like Level Devil that run in a browser tab, start with Trick Room on crokocat: every level is one small room with a door, and the room plays tricks on you. Floors drop, spikes pop up, blocks fall from the ceiling and the door runs away. It is free and needs no download. If what you enjoy is the die, learn, retry loop more than the trolling, four more games give you quick levels and fair deaths: Kitty Leap, Grapple Go, Spring Up and Hop Road.

Trick Room: the room that fights back

Trick Room is the nearest match for a trap platformer. You run and jump to the door of one small room, and the room does not want you to get there. Later rooms stack several tricks at once: a dropping floor, popping spikes, a runaway door, crushers and decoys that never fall, rolling saws, fake floor, invisible blocks, springs, falling icicles, spike waves that chase you, and controls that flip.

The big difference from a cheap troll game is fairness. Every room is checked by a solver, and every trick fires the same way every time, so you learn it once and it is yours. Dying costs nothing: the room resets at once. There are 348 rooms, and you earn stars for fewer tries, with three for clearing a room first time.

Kitty Leap: one finger, no tricks, still precise

Kitty Leap swaps running for aiming. You press anywhere, drag back and let go, and the little orange cat leaps the other way, harder the further you pull. White dots show where you will land, so a miss is your fault rather than the game's.

Thorns and spinning saws hurt, sandy blocks crumble a moment after you land and red mushrooms fling you high. There are 150 towers of floating islands, taller and trickier as you go, with a friend locked in a cage at the very top.

Grapple Go: a one-button climb

Grapple Go needs a single button. Hold anywhere to hook the nearest ring, shoot past it, let go on the way up and grab the next one all the way to the flag. The rope pulls like a rubber band, so the timing of your release is the whole skill.

Spinning saws end the climb, pink spring pads bounce you up and some rings slide on rails. Stars float off the easy line, so swinging wide for all three is a challenge of its own.

Spring Up: a climb that keeps you moving

In Spring Up the jumper bounces by itself and you only steer left and right. Green platforms are safe, blue ones slide from side to side, brown ones crumble the moment you land and springs launch you far above. Fall below the screen and the climb is over.

It has levels that climb from 67 m up to 295 m, and an endless mode where your best height is kept, which makes it a good pick when you want to chase a score instead of a door.

Hop Road: crossing roads one square at a time

Hop Road is a bright voxel 3D crossing game. Every hop is one square: a little frog crosses busy roads, rivers of rolling logs and trains that arrive after a blinking signal. Cars keep their lanes and speeds, so you can watch a lane, find the gap and go.

Levels bring rivers from level 2 and trains from level 4, with pink gems for stars, and there is an endless run where your furthest row is your best.
